Lake Ōkāreka Preschool’s timetable is session based. Monday to Friday 8.15am-3.30pm are offered to all children 2.5 years and older. Afternoon sessions have a focus for our children supporting their transition to school which includes lots of fun projects, trips and more structured activities stemming from their passions and interests.
An 8.15am start is available all days, which is great for working parents. We follow the term dates of the primary school calendar each year and are closed during school holidays. Parents and whānau are welcome to stay for as long as you like, especially when they are settling in to their new preschool. Children can start at 2 and a half years. Please get in touch to find out about our waitlist. |
20 ECE HOURS are available for 2.5 year olds to 6 year olds for a maximum of 6 hours per day.
To discuss hours, availability and fees please send us a message, pop in and visit or call us on 07 362 8606. Settling In Children The initial days of attendance can be unsettling for both child and parent. The teachers will support you both in this transition. Prior to beginning preschool you will be invited to attend sessions with your child to begin the initial transition process if you wish. At the official starting date you are encouraged to stay until your child is happy to be left with the teachers. Preschool is an accredited (July 2015) Breastfeeding Friendly environment to help support nursing mothers while visiting. |

Dear Leslie, Megan, Davina, Erin, Megumi, and Karen,
We would like to send a HUGE heart felt thank from Cadi and the Rankins.
We could not have asked for a better, more vibrant and brilliant, preschool for Cadi. Lake Ōkāreka is a truly exceptional learning centre and that is absolutely because of you.
We have regularly been blown away by the care and time (so much time!) and thought that you put into your students, nurturing their individual passions and providing them with endless opportunities to grow their learning and strengths. We also hugely admire how you support them with things that they maybe aren't so strong with. (Listening the first time springs to mind for Cadi!). I love the 'fun, firm, fair' mentally at Ōkāreka. It truly is setting the kids up so well.
Thank you so much for giving Cadi the best possible start to her learning journey. She has loved all of the arts and crafts and science and stories so much. Yesterday Cadi's whole face and body lit up when she was telling me about the solids and liquids and gases experiments. You all show such genuine enthusiasm for the learning that happens at Ōkāreka Preschool and this is visible in the children.
I hugely value learning and education and the importance of those early years. So, for me, it was fantastic to see 'learn through play and exploration' being executed so brilliantly on a daily basis. The fact that Cadi was able to explore her love of writing and stories filled my heart.
We can't say enough good things about you all as teachers. You really are providing so many children with such a rich and full and positive start to their educations.
THANK YOU. THANK YOU. Zoe & Rob Rankin April 2025
