Davina Bruere – Head Teacher Part Time
Diploma of Teaching 1987
Diploma in Kindergarten 1987
Kia ora,
Having gained my first teaching qualification in 1988, I have worked in various teaching roles before joining the Lake Okareka Preschool teaching team in 2007. While my children were young I was involved with Playcentre, was a Mainly Music Leader and trained to run preschool gymnastic classes.
The reason I love to work in the Early Childhood sector of education is the partnership formed between the child, parents, extended family and teaching team to develop the whole child to their full potential. Special Education has been a passion of mine. The skills I have learnt on courses have equipped me to observe children with an eye that easily allows me to find individual children’s strengths to extend and also provide extra support in areas that are needed. It is exciting when children set themselves goals and you are part of the process of them achieving them.
I feel it is essential that children have a sense of belonging, worthiness, respect for others and themselves. And that they feel the goodness of caring for one another and learn to show empathy towards others. While they are being the best citizens they can be; it is my job to create an exciting and challenging environment that will extend and support their learning.
I love coming to work. We have a teaching team that is well supported by the Board and the community has a special character of its own. My interests outside preschool are mountain biking, walking, cooking and keeping up with family and friends.
